Let's Talk: Why I Am Ready For Fall

{Their just one of my annual fall fashion inspirations}

When it comes to personal style, I am defiantly a boots and scarf kind of girl. I love a great pair jeans tucked into a great pair of comfort boots, a cool asymmetrical jacket and a statement scarf to finish off the look. It's not that I dislike the summer, winter or spring (aka summer transitional) fashion, it's just that there is something so balanced about the fall that I am attracted to.
I think women look their best, when they feel their best. People always talk about confidence and radiance coming from within. I totally agree, but I think clothes by way of expressing ones self stylistically can contribute to that feeling for many women. And I have a feeling if you're reading a blog like this one, you may agree with this statement.
I feel my best, in the fall. I feel great in my clothes. I feel like it's the perfect temperature for my hair (lol). I love the way you can cover up with you are outdoors and then uncover when you get indoors.
I'm honestly tired of constantly waxing. I'm sick of staring at my opaque black tights and know they would look amazing under any dress or skirt and most of all I'm tired of feeling like I always have to wear brights, when they only thing I want to do is wear my beloved muted colours!
So, bring on the cute trenches, boots, leather jackets and statement scarves. I'm ready for you, fall!
What season make you feel you best?

Inspiration: A-List Minamalism

I can't quite decide if I am impressed when a celebrity, especially A-Lister is dressed well or not. I mean with all the stylists and free products at their disposal (not to mention unlimited spending accounts), is it really that impressive when they look put together and chic? Well yes and no. I still think there a some celebrities (ahem, singer of 'Hit Me Baby One More Time') that are a complete stylistic mess regardless of wealth and status.  However, I think a celebrity who can pick the right stylist and is careful about what she wears can also be impressive. And besides who am I kidding? It's always fun to see what your favorite celebrity is wearing and perhaps draw inspiration from them. However, what I find the most inspirational, is when a  celebrity  can 'edit' their look. Meaning, they don't have to wear every fashion trend of the moment under the sun, especially all at once. When a fashion-icon can pull off a simple, minimalist look, but still look stunning, well, that's what I consider impressive and it's what I draw inspiration from the most. Check out some other looks that I think fit the bill.

Coveting & Considering: Chic Comfort

As much as I like to get dressed up, I equally like to wear clothes that are comfortable. You'll never see me in baggy sweat pants, rubber flip-flops (yes I know I have something against them) or Adidas track pants, but I like to find ways to look causal and feel easy breezy without sacrificing style. I call this look Chic Comfort, not to be confused with luxe sport.

How do you dress casually? Does comfort dressing for you require certain materials or fabrics? Brands? Styles?

The T.Dot Scene: Spin

Spin, is a really cool, non-commercialized desert place. They also serve savory breakfast/brunch and lunch items. We were really excited to try this place because a few items on the menu immediately stuck out to us, as ones we must try. First was the Rolo-flavored latte (pictured below), their baked apple pie flavored ice cream and lastly, their spinach and egg crepes. We tried a couple of savory crepes, including the spinach and egg and were left feeling unsatisfied. My cousin ordered another version of the egg crepe and both were flavorless and lacked salt. After we finished our meals, we hoped that the latte and ice cream would provide us with a better experiences of the place - and it did. The Rolo-latte was rich, smooth and actually tasted like a Rolo! The ice cream actually tasted like baked apple pie. This place does refer to itself as a 'desert' place after all. Therefore, we will be visiting again soon, but just for desert!

In My Closet: Expensive & Cheap

I absolutely love mixing and matching higher end items with cheaper items. I feel like I can stretch my closet and budget a lot further when I do this.  Tonight I am going to the trendy Shops on Don Mills (outdoor mall in Toronto) with some girlfriends. We are going to have drinks and dinner on a patio. It's not super warm today, so I wanted to pick a not-to-fancy, weather appropriate outfit.

Opinion: Things I Would Never Wear

Let me start off by saying that this post is not meant to insult anyone. This is simply a personal opinion- my personal opinion. I am sure there are many things that I wear, that others would never be caught dead in. I also acknowledge that some of the items listed here, are ones that you may like or pull off very well!  However, for me, occasionally  re-evaluating and revisiting my personal style and discovering what I like/love also requires me consider things that I don't like. It's all part of the process. It's figuing out what I would not purchase (even with a hefty discount) because I know I would never end up wearing it anyway. It's about learning how I have grown as person because I think changing ones style over the years or during life altering moments, is a strong personality indicator.

Here are my list of fashion faux-pas, no-no's etc.

Crocs. I don't care how comfortable these are or if they are the equivalent to 'walking on clouds'. These shoes are so unflattering (on everyone) that they have no stylistic redeeming qualities.
Red lace. I have always considered red lace to be gaudy and harsh. Yes there are celebrities who have worn wonderful  red lace pieces,  like here ad here, but for the most part, red lace is something, in my opinion, that should be reseved for the bouduare.

Rubber Flip Flops. Think Old Navy flip flops. Eek! I consider these to be the shoe equivalent of mom jeans. Often times, I see women in cute dresses/outfits then only to look down at their feet to see these overly casual,  looking footwear. I really think this should be reserved for the pool-side, if that. With so many cute, affordable and comfortable options out there, why?
Overalls. I wore overalls in the 90s. I say this as I hang my head in shame. I never felt, hot or confident in them but it was a 'trend' and besides Donna, Valerie and Kelly pulled it off so well on 90210. In the end, overalls don't do justice for any woman's figure. Besides unless your a farmer, what's the need?
Crop Tops. There is nothing remotely classy aboout crop tops. I don't care if Tom Ford himself designed and sewed the top. I am not exactly sure where crop tops are considered appropriate?
Booty Shorts.  Unless I'm an extra in a 90s rap video, I would never be caught dead in these. And since the 90s have passed (and I would never be an extra in a video), it never did, nor will it ever happen!

Fanny Packs. Fanny Packs. Enought said. But then again, not enough said!! Even Chanel, in my opinion can't get away with this. There is just something that just screams "I don't care about style" when I see fanny-packs. My only exception would be mountain climbing or hiking.
String bikinis.  I'm not a Brazilian model nor a porn star (I'm not comparing the two, just that in my last trip to Brazil I noticed it was quite the norm there),  therefore, you won't see me this.

NOW, I really want to know what your list would be!! Either let me know here or create a post of your own. Trust me, we are all so use to talking about what we like, so it would be nice to hear your faux-pas!.

In My Closet: Red & Jewels

Yesterday I purchased this vibrant red top from Zara. With all the pastels and neons being worn this season, I opted for a colour that is going to be huge for this fall. I typically am not a lover of red, but there was just something so pretty and delicate about this top. It was a classic with an edge, a look that I  truly love. I have tickets to the theater today, followed by dinner, therefore I am going to pair this top with a simple pair of black pants as there is already a lot going on with the neckline.

The Top Five: Things to Bring to Vegas

Having been to Las Vegas more then a dozen times for bachelorettes and getaways with girlfriends, I am more then confident about which items are must haves on my trip.   Recently, I have had a few friends, who have never gone to Las Vegas asking my advice on what they should bring on their first-time trip to Vegas. They were confident in my advice as they know I am not going to tell them to bring a bunch of flip-flops and shorts or just a buch of 'clubbing' dresses. Instead, I will tell them what they should bring for a more versitle trip.  I do enjoy the nightlife there, and gamble very, very little, but I am also big foodie and enjoy the close proximity to so many amazing restaurants by world renowned chefs. I also go to many shows, attend the pool parties, shop etc. This prompted me to create a list (This ones for you Alexis and Farah!)...and the rest of you who haven't had the pleasure of going or who just want to re-visit what to bring!

I learned #5 the hard way!

What else would you add to this list?

Random Musings

Now that summer is in full swing, I am looking for ways to make my space feel more summery. Obviously the easiest and most economical way to do this is to update some of the decor. I love the look of lemons in a bowl. I use to put real ones in, but then always ended up using them. So faux lemons it is! And because it's so hot and humid outside, I prefer body cleansers/fragrances that have a natural clean, soapy smell rather then something too strong (well more so for the day time).

The T.Dot Scene: Glow Fresh Grill & Wine Bar

The hip and trendy Shops on Don Mills, which is an outdoor mall is located just 5 minutes away from where I live. I dine there often, going to restaurants like Joey's and Linda's (and now waiting anxiously for Canada's first PF Changs!). I had never previously dined at Glow Fresh Grill & Wine Bar. I often get mixed reviews from friends about its menu and service. Most of the items don't use a lot of cream or butter and with many gluten free and carb-less options (hamburgers without buns), we quickly realized this was a 'health fad' restaurant. We didn't mind that part though. We ordered the Lobster mac and cheese (without cream!) it wasn't bad at all. but it's apparent that it isn't your regular mac and cheese. We weren't that hungry so we shared that and decided we would order their mini desserts, that come in shot glasses later on. We were also surprised with a Hummus trio for the table (instead of bread like most restaurants) which I really enjoyed (perhaps more then my mac and cheese) and the mini desserts were amazing.  Overall, our server was super nice, but slow. Service in general was. This probably won't be my 'go-to' at the Shops on Don Mills, considering all the other options there, but it's nice atmosphere and great place for drinks!

Linked Up Thursdays

Club Monaco is one of my favorite stores. Everything in there is so classy and can make any girl look put together. Therefore, I will be picking up this Lucas Silk Shirtdress and will also consider this Shawna Silk Top. I  haven't been there in a while so I am really looking forward to scouring the racks!

As I was going through a blog that I regularly like to read : Oh the lovely things, I stumbled upon this recipe of no-bake mini cheesecake bits found on a blog called Cooking Classy. These are being baked made TONIGHT!

Adore these newly discovered blogs!

In My Closet

I have purchased quite a few items in the last few weeks that I will be sharing with you. Some quite economical and others...well...we'll discuss that another time! Here are just a few buys I would like to share with you. First buy one get on half off nail  in the latest summer colour hues. A girl can never have too many right? Next this amazingly comfortable silk skirt with pockets that I got on sale by Wilfred (marked down from $165) and lastly, this $12 dress from Forever 21. I hate scouring the racks there, but sometimes things just stick out and this cute casual dress did. I have actually received a lot of compliments on it. Who knew the amount of flattery $12 can garner!

Let's Talk: Work-Wear in Blue & Yellow

Conservative Look: 1//2//3//4//5//6 Business Casual Look: 1//2//3//4 Funky Look: 1//2//3//4//5//6
Having worked in various environments throughout my professional career, I have had to update my look and adhere to various wardrobe requirements as outlined by company policy for each place. It has actually been quite interesting to see how my look would change with each job.
If you work in Management consulting, I find now days you can be a bit more playful, but still remain very professional, especially if you are meeting a client that day. Most places I find fall under the business casual look, where you must still look professional and put together, but  looks are a bit more day to night friendly. In funky or casual environments, you can use your clothes as a creative outlet and probably don't have any  rules other then to not be offensive!

One rule I do have: If you ever question what you are wearing or require a second opinion to determine its appropriateness - you should probably just change! (This is one that I hear from many HR professionals).

What category does your workplace fall under? Do you wish it was different?
