Coveting & Considering: Beyond Brights

1.Current/Elliott 2.Alexander McQueen 3.Balenciaga 4.Diane von Furstenberg 5.Rachel Gilbert 6.Rochas 7.Zara 8.H&M 9.Alice + Olivia
Somewhere among a sea of neons, electrical hues and bright head bands that are adorning the runways and dominating stores shelves there is a place where pastels exist...somewhere. Pastels are not a 'in your face' trend of the moment like the neons and other brights, but they are certainly appropriate for this season. Also, many professional women my opt for pastels over brighter colours in the professional work place simply because it isn't as distracting (or unprofessional) as the brights. Of course, this all comes down to where you work - and whether you really care.

Simple, Clean Inspiration

{Looking for a similar clutch. Classic with a bold twist}
Source: Opals
While most people think of Friday as the end of the work week and the beginning of partying and relaxing, I consider Friday a reflection day. But don't worry, I won't reflect on anything too heavy here. Instead I'll share some fun reflections. I realized there is nothing more beautiful to me then simple, clean looks. So, first, I have been re-assessing my closet, wardrobe etc., and I think I need to add some more simple, clean classic but bold pieces to my closet, hence the clutch above. I am also going to resume my designing and use some of my style icons such as Fran├žoise Hardy for inspiration. These are all my style inspirations/musings for the week!

Changes

Source: Note to Self
Over the past couple of months I have be unhappy with the name of my blog. I thought 'bloggertory' was pretty darn cleaver, but now I can't stand to look at it. Unfortunately, I don't want to change my blog link (I heard it has many downfalls), so I will change the name everywhere else. I think it really reflects my blog and has been a name I was contemplating even before this blog was created. Thanks to all who support this blog!

Bridal Shower Designs

Source: Martha Stewart Weddings
Over the course of the next eight months I will be planning several bridal showers. This means looking for tons of ideas and inspirations online, scouring tons of magazines and asking advice from  my new friends in the blogging community. Here are some beautiful themes that I have found during my initial research.

Coveting & Considering: Tribal

1.Sandro 2.Nakamol 3.Jimmy Choo 4.Jeeyun Ha Design 5.Michael Kors
I am so excited about this trend that is not only popping up in runways across the globe, but in numerous ready-to-wear collections and economical boutiques! I adore the bohemian chic look and the new tribal craze definitely contributes to that style. I already have some 'tribalisque' necklaces and bags from various past seasons, so those will be dusted off, polished, and ready to wear!

PERSONAL COLLECTION: D&G

Ever clean out your pockets or look through an old purse and find some some unexpected cash that you forgot you had? How amazing does it feel? Well, yesterday I was doing some spring shoes inventory at home, to see what I had and what needed to be replaced and I came across this Dolce & Gabbana box. I couldn't for the life of me figure out what was in it. When I opened it, I discovered these cute black satin ballet flats that I bought last year! I completely forgot I had them. They were under a pile of grad school text books that I have been meaning to donate forever now. I am going to have fun wearing these cute flats out this spring!

Coveting & Considering: Updated Belts

1.Reiss 2.Madewell 3.Marni
Belts are those accessories that people either love or hate or feel like they need (think, preventing your pants from falling off). Either way, belts like dairy products should have an expiration date. There is nothing more dreadful then a girl in a cute outfit, with a worn out belt, with holes larger then some dinner plates (okay, so slight exaggeration), but still... Take my best friend: she thinks it's perfectly acceptable to wear this plain black belt from 10 years ago, simply because it's black and a closet staple <rolling eyes>. So I recommended updating her belts so they are a bit more fashion forward but still belts she can wear with almost anything and for umm...10 years..lol.

Coveting & Considering

Yesterday while walking in the Beach neighbourhood of Toronto, I saw a really cute mom holding her toddlers' hand and pushing a stroller with her new born baby with the other hand. I immediately noticed her beautiful Mulberry satchel draped across her shoulders and fell instantly in love with the bag! The kids were adorable also! These other items are also ones i'm coveting and considering. We'll see which ones actually end up in my closet...
1. Mulberry 2. Reiss 3. Chanel 4. Alexander McQueen

Toronto Fashion Week FW'12

I am so proud and honoured to show you a sneak peak of Toronto Fashion Week for FW'12 collections. Toronto is a beautiful, vibrant and exciting city, where our women, are strong, educated, independent and energetic and I am pleased that the clothes reflect those attributes.

Coveting & Considering

1. House of Harlow, 2. Red Valentino, 3. Giuseppi Zanotti, 4. Top Shop, 5.Tod's
If you're like me (and most of you probably are not) you love fall clothes and fall/spring/winter shoes. I actually dread summer shoes. I'm not a huge fan of open-toed shoes, but will wear them if I have to. Summer shoes mean one thing: A lot of upkeep...and drama (think even more frequent pedicures!) So, if you're like me or even if you're not, there is nothing wrong with some transitional shoes (aka the spring shoe). But even more so, they are spring shoes that actually are spring shoes and not just a bunch of vibrant coloured, strappy shoes pawed off by companies to resemble an actual spring shoe (aka summer transitional shoe!). These are some of my favorite. They say: "Summer, I am accepting you are on your way, but, I still enjoy that cool crisp air of spring"

Inspiration

I absolutely adore the print on print that I've been seeing come alive these past two seasons. And although my own personal colour palette is fairly muted (think a closet filled with blacks, greys, beige etc.), I can't help gush over all the beautiful prints I've seen displayed both on and off the runways. It has really inspired me to update my rather monotone closet. Here is a compilation of someone of my favorite prints so far in 2012!

Beautiful Things Pinboard

...pretty ladies and vintage cars
Source: 1/2/3/4
I am totally obsessed with the 50s and 60s and love watching old movies (or period movies) which depict that era. The women were beautiful as were the cars. In those times women + cars = pinup magic. I still draw some stylistic inspiration from that.

The Updated Blazer

1. H&M, 2. Malene Birger, 3. Romwe
I am a big believer in buying clothes that you can get maximum wear out of and that at the very least, you can wear an entire season without feeling like you are over doing it, or being afraid that others will think you wore the same outfit over and over. This does not mean giving up on trends or seasonal colours. It just means being wise about how far you take a trend. You can certainly buy cheaper options form stores like Forever 21 (I did when I really wanted to buy a sequence dress that I knew I would only wear once), but if you are buying a key item that will serve as a staple, you need to be wiser with your options. I bought a mint green blazer from Zara to replace the white one I've been wearing for the last two summers. It's a great alternative to white, I can still wear it often, and it's an instant basic update!

Trend Watch

1. Wendy Mink, 2. Yves Saint Laurent, 3. Lavin
Here's the thing. I love turquoise jewellery and I'll wear it whether it's in or out. I simply don't care. Some seasons, my sister who I consider one of the most style inclined and aware  people I know will say, "why are you wearing that?" then literally the next season, she will ask to borrow that same turquoise coloured piece.  Turquoise flows in and out almost as much as animal print does. Regardless, I have listed three different rings in turquoise, one is classic and would be like wearing the ring in any other colour. The second is a bold statement piece but it's still considered a classic and the third is 'very in the moment'.

Trend Watch

1. Faith Connexion, 2.Tory Burch, 3. Diane von Furstenberg, 4. Lavin, 5. L'Agence, 6. Reiss
Metallics have been seen all over the catwalk in not only Paris, but in other shows as well as campaigns for several brands. I for one am quite pleased with this, as I have a few items I would like to bring out of the fashion purgatory.  I love the items above because they are not so 'in your face' metallic or trendy (well except for those pants, I doubt they're even age appropriate for me at this point, but still cool non the less). Any of these items would have looked just as appropriate had metallics not been the  trend to watch (well again maybe not those pants). But then again who am I to put restrictions on personal style?

Lakme Summer/Resort '12 Fashion Week

Okay so right now everyone is in a frenzy over Paris Fashion Week (including me) therefore it's no wonder that you are going to see tons of posts about it. But if you truly think that fashion is an art form, it's best to explore this art within all different cultures and perspectives, not just Paris, Milan and New York. I spent hours looking at the Summer/Resort 2012 Lakme Fashion Week Shows (aka India's Fashion Week) and after careful deliberation, I created the following categories (see below), including an honorable  mention. Let me know what you think and hope you're inspired!

Coveting & Considering: Florals

Now that florals are back with a vengeance, perhaps I can vindicate myself for all those days when I was younger and my mom insisted I wear those tacky floral patterns! Except these are beautiful..The only thing is, I would say wear these prints with some consideration. I saw a women the other day wearing these H&M pants below with a another floral top and heavy set boots. I understand print over print is also on point for this fall but there is such a thing as too much of a good thing.
1. Floral Pants - H&M
2. Riley A-Line Skirt - Alice & Olivia
3. Flower Drop Earring - lapis and Turquoise
4. Gleeso Printed Canvas Shorts - Ted Baker London
5. Hawaiian Printed Halter Bikini - Zimmermann
6. Orchard Print Dress - Roberto Cavalli

Vogue Australia's April Cover Preview.
Source: Australia Vogue Online
I seriously dig this cover featuring model Julia Frauche. I love everything from the pose, to the makeup, to the styling, all the way to the lack of text on the cover. I think it's cool without being too cool and kind of edgy for Australia Vogue in general, don't you think? Also, I'm not a hat person, but, I think I may reconsider after this cover...what do you think of this cover?

Coveting & Considering

1. Straw Large Tote 2. Rope Belt 3. Daria Driver Loafers 4. Robinson Mini Satchel 5. Gingham Cuff 6.Hardshell Phone Case
The selection of Tory Burch items in Toronto is rather disappointing. This is just one of the many reasons why I am excited about a NYC trip soon. Although I am not an iPhone user, I adore this case and will probably pick it up for someone that is! The loafers are definitely a front runner. They look so comfortable!
