Thoughts Out Loud

Hello everyone and happy Monday! Just a little tribute I created for a weekend with some of my favorite ladies watching some sappy flicks. I'm more of an Action film kind of girl, but I am girl after-all and we need to be girly every now and then, right? This quote resonates with me because it is so full of passion, love and most of all hope. What are some of your favorite movie quotes?

Thoughts Out Loud

I often feel like I let opportunities slip away, simply because I could not communicate how I feel. Looking back at it now, at least half of those time I wish I had said something. Therefore is it a good thing I didn't because there was a 50% chance I might have regretted saying something, OR is 50% a good enough percentage to take the risk? This can be applied to Love, Work and even communicating with friends and family.

Musings Pinboard

....{All things that are Sailing-Luxe}
image: compiled from various tumblr sources
Living in Toronto, there aren't many opportunities to go sailing, therefore when I go to Florida or New England, I fully take advantage. Next month I will be travelling to Florida and will hopefully make more 'practical' use out of all my nautical attire (you know, besides actually wearing them on daily basis!).

Little Luxuries

This Dior Addict Extreme lipstick in Paparazzi (866) is everything it says it is. Long lasting and has a radiant shine. My favorite is Paparazzi because it is a vibrant colour, without being too bold and loud for those days that you want colour at the office. Also, it lasts a really long time. I apply it twice a day for 3 months straight! It's just a little luxury but makes me feel confidant and pretty whenever I wear it!

In My Closet: HOH Ring

House of Harlow Olbers Paradox Ring
I absolutely adore this ring. I can wear it to work (It's actually the smaller version) or wear it out at night. Every since I bought it, I have been resisting wearing it every single day. It's definitely one piece that is a go-to for me at the moment.

Thoughts Out Loud

This is something I always have to remember when I spend too much time at work trying to accomplish something. Sometimes dropping the work to have ice-cream and SATC marathon with my girls or getting a manicure with my mom on a busy weekday is so much more gratifying than a potential promotion.

In My Closet: White HOH

In this post here I talked about my love for my Black HOH necklace. Recently, I was shopping for a birthday gift for a friend and I came across the white version. I have seen it on-line many times of course and even on some girls out and about, but I never thought of purchasing it until that moment. My black necklace is such a classic and staple in my closet that I cannot imagine living without it.  The white, I figured would be the same. And it has been! Whether I pair it with a chambray shirt or nice black dress, this has easily become another go-to in my closet!

Thoughts Out Loud

Image: via
Happy Monday readers! Today, my thoughts reflect a side of me I don't often share (never really share) and that's my love life. I have come to learn that there is a difference between falling in love and being right for one another. You should really have both. Seems quite logical  doesn't it? But sometimes the heart wants, what the heart wants and it's hard to fight that little bugger!

Little Luxuries

Little luxuries sometimes have a way to escape us. Perhaps because we are so fixated on 'big-ticket' items or people, places, things on a grander scale. Last week, I was at Sephora, not looking for anything in particular, when I came across this product. I have read various blog posts about this cleanser and even had a neighbor rave about it. I decided to get it since I was almost out of my regular face cleanser. I call this this a "luxury" because it is quite expensive for a product with minimal chemicals (minimal chemicals is a good thing!). Let me just say how amazing this product is! For a cleanser that is so light-weight and gentle, it removed all my make-up and left me feeling rejuvenated and most importantly clean afterwards! Love life's little luxuries....

Thoughts Out Loud

Lately I've been getting busy again to the point where I have neglected this blog and some of my other passions. I must not let that happen again! I feel like I sound like a broken record, but life is too short to not do things you want- the things you love. Words to live by.

In My Closet: Jet-Set to Vegas

As of last night, I found out that I will be in Vegas this Friday to Sunday. A good friend is having her bachelorette there this weekend. Originally I was not going to go because I had some things I had to take care of in Toronto. Just last night I found out that I can actually go! Everyone else already booked their flights and will be there from Thursday - Monday. I am being a bit of a Jet-setter and will leave after work on Friday. I'll definitely pack light but I knew there were some key, versatile items I just had to bring along. To say I'm excited is an understatement! Here are some items I am taking with me. Hopefully I'll have everything I need!

Can't Wait to Meet You Neighbour!

The Target Canada commercial  premiered during the Canadian Oscars Telecast and it is amazing! It features all of the major Canadian cities. I am super proud to sit just 10 feet away from the creative folks that put this all together. The commercial premiered to millions of people last night. I can honestly say this was the first time I was excited to see a commercial over the dresses! This is also the first time the theme song - Mr. Rogers Neighborhood was used outside of the original program  The song remade by Canadian group Dragonette for the commercial was a huge hit. Check it out!

Opnion: Louboutin's At Work

I know this topic has been debated quite frequently in the past, but for any style-conscious gal, this is still the age old question. So here's my story:  Prior to my MBA, I worked for a creative company which owned several fashion magazines. Of course, I owned all but one pair of Louboutin's and I was not about to "waste" them at work. Looking back it would have been the best place to wear them, because it was like NYFW everyday at that place! After my MBA I landed a position with a Management Consulting firm, and I was often conflicted about wearing Louboutin's to work. Right in the heart of the financial district in Toronto, I didn't know if it was overtly fashionable.  Currently, I am back to working for the HQ at a major retailer head office. I completed my Master's in Public Health and work in supporting the Clinics & Pharmacy practices.  Although the company is young, fresh and hip, I work in healthcare, were my direct colleagues are pretty 'stiff''. Spending so many hours a day at work, I would love to wear these shoes, that I quite frankly spent a ton of money on! But, I already have some of the Pharmacy Consultants here poking at my bags, telling me, it must be so nice to be young (I think they think I am younger than I really am), and not have any responsibilities. So would wearing such identifiable shoes elevate and increase that type of commentary? It's annoying because I have always worked so hard! I've had great parents who supported me, but 85% of the time, I have wanted to do everything on my own. Paid for my education  supported charities and made good investments. So what if I spoil myself every now and then? But how do I explain this to judgmental people at work when they see the red soles walk by their desk in the morning?

Anyone else feel the same?

In My Closet: A Green Favorite

Balenciaga Classic Part Time Curry (this seasons colors here)
I do this a lot. I buy something I absolutely adore and then forget about it until years later. Sometimes it's fun to rediscover something after a while, because it feels like a new purchase - especially when it's a classic item. I know this color is not classic per say, but the style is. I love this Balenciaga because it's this wild pop of color that I can add to a neutral outfit or add a 'kick' to a fairly simple assemble.  I still remember the day  I bought this purse 5 years ago! I had just received my bonus and while I put a majority of it away in savings, I still decided to treat myself, and this purse was the treat!

The Top Five: Beauty Items I Can't Live Without

1. Chanel Hydramax and Active Moisturizer
Yesterday, I was taking an inventory of some of the beauty items I use on a daily basis just to make sure that I still had enough of everything.  I can't imagine waking up and not having my favorite moisturizer on hand! That prompted me to gather some of my beauty essentials- products that I just cannot live without and share them with you. Only thing missing here is my Chanel Rouge Allure Lipstick in Passion which can be seen in this post here. What are some of your beauty essentials? If you have done a similar post, feel free to add the link to your comment so I can check it out!

2. Butter Nail Laquer (one for professional occasions, fun and dark)

3. YSL Radiant Touch aka Magic Stick
4. Tarte Cheek Satin in Flush

5. Prada Perfume in Ambree

In My Closet: Pink Parker

Parker Dress
This picture (my sister took my camera) does not do this Fushia pink Parker dress justice. As some of you know, I get really scared by bright colours sometimes. But I decided to make a 'bold' move and get this dress. I absolutely adore it and cannot wait to wear it out! How do you all feel about pink this season? Are any of you afraid of bright palettes like I am?

In my closet: Running Errands

 Zara Linen Sweater, Zara Jeans, Over The Rainbow Necklace & Ring, Louis Vuitton Bag

What's the only thing worse about running errands? Running errands in a part of town where you will bump into people you know- and people who will judge you! Seems superficial right? I know. But I can't help feel a little anxious about wearing ratty-looking tights and having my hair look like it's gone through a wind-tunnel. That's why I like to have a outfits on-hand (simple, nothing-special-but-still-appropriate) outfits to run dreadful errands, in not so dreadful areas. I wore this yesterday to get my facial, pick-up dry-cleaning, buy a baby shower gift- oh yeah, I also did some volunteer math tutoring (which wasn't dreadful, but something I always look forward to).

 This black and white print puts a 'spin' on the white jeans
 Love the detailed trimming of the sweater and this cute ring I picked up on sale for just $4 in Yorkville of all places!

In My Closet: Downtown Shopping

Balenciaga Bag, Foever 21 Blazer, J. Crew Tee, Zara Pants

Downtown Toronto is a wonder-world of everything anyone could ask for. From great shopping, to sight-seeing, to trendy areas, to places where the hipsters can hang out. This is an outfit I wore over the weekend, shopping with a friend, followed by dinner at Lobster Rock on Ossignton, which I will post about on Thursday! This bag has remained a constant fixture in my closet after many years!

Still one of my favorite bags after 7 years!

Inspiration: The look of Freja Beha Erichsen

Mo&Co Spring/Summer 2013 campaign via
Freja Beha, is a 25 year old Danish model whose style and collaborations are extremely desirable. Not only is she beautiful, but she has a cool, down-to-earth vibe. If you follow my blog, you are well aware that I am one of those people that covet the 'trendy-but-classic-but-with a rock chic twist' kind of look. I'm a bit more 'classic' then Freja, but she inspires me to get some more statement pieces to add to my closet.

In My Closet: In the Club

Club Monaco Scarf (similar here)

Okay, so the title of the post is a bit misleading. The 'club' actually refers to Club Monaco- one of my favorite stores and a Canadian creation! Yes, before Ralph Lauren acquired this brand, it was operated solely in Toronto, Canada. This store, is my go-to when I don't want too think to hard about what's classy, work appropriate - yet trendy. It's typically a 'safe-bet'. When I saw this scarf, I instantly fell in love. I originally went in to purchase #5 from yesterday's Coveting & Considering post but alas, this one won me over and it was on sale!

In My Closet: Out With The Girls

 Prada Booties, Aritzia Pink Shirt, Forever 21 Faux Fur Vest, House of Harlow (Special Edition) Necklace (similar & cheaper here), Micheal Kors Watch, Target Bracelets, Zara Stretch Pants

The theme of this outfit is: 'Out With the Girls'. This is something I might wear if I was meeting some friends on Friday night- if we were to go get some dinner at a trendy (but not too formal spot) followed by some live music at a lounge (again trendy but not formal). In my opinion, this outfit reads: I like to have fun, dress up but still be comfortable. I could be wrong! Let me know what you think and how you would make this look better. (I'm aware that I left out the all important handbag!)

New Prada Favorite

Prada Saffiano Lux Tote Bag in Graphite (similar here)
In this post here, I mentioned that I made some Prada purchases during my trip to Chicago. This bag was a last minute acquisition. After a long day at the Art Institute of Chicago + Bulls game (yes, I am a huge basketball fan!), we still made time for some shopping before we headed back to our hotel. I wanted another "Neutral" bedsides beige or black and thought it would be nice to add some grey to my collection.

Inspiration: Shows That Made Me Re-Think My Wardrobe!

{1. Sex & the City - I'm not sure anything needs to be said!}

I think at one time or another we have all dreamed about being the matriarch (or the spoiled daughter) of a  wealthy tycoon, or having unlimited spending accounts in NYC or how about having a famous fashion-designer mom? Chances are, most of us won't live out that fantasy but we can most certainly watch others play it out for us. I like many, like a wide variety of TV shows, from Dexter to CSI to Survivor. But some of the shows (past and present) that have remained a permanent fixture in my mind are ones that I can relate to on a stylistic level. Here are some the shows over the years that I have drawn inspiration from and still do!

{2. Dynasty. Some of the clothes would be considered out there, but overall this show was a fixture of any fashionista in the 80's and many still draw inspiration from it today...I'd wear most of what is in this picture}

{3. When SATC ended, it left a fashion void on TV, until Gossip Girl stole our fashion hearts}

{4. Love or hate this show, or the women in it, you cannot deny this was a style source for many of us}

In My Closet: New Mini Prada

Prada Saffiano Crossbody Chain Wallet

During my recent trip to Chicago, I promised myself that this trip would be less about shopping and more about sight-seeing, living the life of a foodie and just relaxing. But alas, I couldn't help but shop (just a little). I purchased a few items from Prada, including this cute mini chain purse, that I hear that there are only a handful of in the states. I love this because I can wear it during the day or night and the chain is removal, transforming it into a clutch. Love my new purchase!
